Gnome Planner on a Mac
14 feb 2009
Now that I’ve started my thesis work I have a need do handle the work as project and to make a good project plan. So I started looking for a good free project management application for the Mac, but there was none...
So from my experience with Linux I’m quite familiar with Planner from the Gnome project. So I tried to download the source and compiling it myself. This failed because there where allot of dependencies on Gnome specific libraries. After a little bit of surfing the web I found the MacPorts home page, so I installed MacPorts and started to install planner from there. After about two whole hours all the necessary applications and libraries where installed. I fired up X11 and then Planner and it worked like a charm. The only thing to complain about is that I can’t change the way GTK looks, I probably only need to install the right package but for now it works but doesn’t look as pretty as my OS X native apps.
After planner was installed I started to write my WBS and Gantt-chart. To see the results have a look here.
Gnome Planner running under X11 in Mac OS X. Thanks to the MacPorts project for making this possible without to much hassle.
