The increased demand of people for communication and the great costs of regular
telephonic calls created the need of new research for inventing cheaper but of
the same quality telephonic calls. Internet-based solutions were introduced and
gave the privilege of low-cost calls by connecting two callers directly using only
their computers. Although, it is not always easy for the users and especially for business
persons to carry a computer with them, even if it is a laptop, so the company OptiCall
Solutions AB designed an integrated system that is called the Dial over Data (DoD) solution
and offers inexpensive telephonic calls from mobile phones. The Dial over Data solution uses
a low-rate communication channel with a mobile interface which allows efficient mobile call
management in good prices with support of all type of phones including mobile phones,
landline phones and SIP clients. The aim of this master thesis project is to implement and test a mobile client in JavaME which will provide the services of the DoD solution to customers. The services include the ability of making different type of calls namely: direct calls, call-through, call-back and presence services. Furthermore, the client will be evaluated and compared with an existing Symbian client and find out which is the best software solution for providing mobile extensions to customers by taking into consideration clients' abilities, usability and the vast availability of mobile devices in the market. |
