CV. Teresa Cerratto Pargman

I am an assistant professor in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at the School of Information and Communication Technology at Stockholm University (SU) and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden since February 2003.

I am interested in the relationship between writing and technology from socio-cultural perspectives of literacy and tool use. I work with a particular focus on design, adoption and use of technologies for reflective and collaborative purposes and am currently responsible for a project in that area (see below).

Prior to joining the School of Information and Communication Technology, I was a post-doc researcher at IPLAB-NADA at the Royal Institute of Technology where I also taught the doctoral course “Theoretical Perspectives on Human-Computer Interaction” together with my colleague Henrik Artman. I have also participated in the project ”Virtual collaborative learning”, led by Professor Yvonne Wærn at Linköping University and the project “Writing and document design in shared environments” led by Professor Kerstin Severinson-Eklundh. Both projects were funded by The Swedish Transport & Communications Research Board.

Before coming to Sweden in August 1999, I was a Ph D student at the University of Paris VIII, Department of cognition and work-oriented activities and at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Lyon, France. My dissertation, "Collaborative networked activities: An instrumental approach to collaborative writing", dealt with the problem of appropriating computer tools for collaborative writing activities and my principal advisor was Professor Pierre Rabardel. I defended my dissertation in Cognitive Psychology in December 1999 and my dissertation obtained the highest degree of the five possible degrees within the French educational system.

Education

- M. Sc. in Cognitive Modeling at Lyon 2 University (1995), France.

- Ph D in Cognitive Psychology at Paris VIII University (1999), France.

Current research projects

I lead the project entitled "The use of writing tools in the context of second language learning" funded by The Swedish Research Council. The project investigated the mediating role of computer-based language tools in the writing process of second-language speakers. 2003-2006

I also participated in the project "Shared Representations and Collaborative Learning of Interaction Design", funded by The Swedish Research Council. In this project I studied the collaborative activity of sketching in the context of learning interaction design. 2004-2007.

Teaching

I am coordinator for the Program “Communication and Information Technology” given by the Dept of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV), Stockholm University.

I am responsible for and teach two courses at the International Masters Program of Interactive Systems Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. The courses are “Methodology for Interaction Design” and “Collaborative Computing”.

I teach for the following courses included in the program “Communication and Information Technology” given by the Dept of Computer and Systems Sciences: Introduktion till Kommunikation och IT, Interaktionsdesign metodik och Projektarbete.
