My interests include (in stream of consciousness-order):
self-organization
nonlinear dynamics
bottom-up systems in nature
swarm intelligence
synergetics
experimental music
digital audio
artificial life
evolutionary computing
cellular automata
astronomy
fantasi och fakta
literature
old and new science fiction
robots
people (no, I'm joking)
philosophy of mind
philosophy of science
realism vs. relativism in science and aesthetics
19th century experts on evolution
a-authoritative thinking
the brain
etc.
I'm currently a Ph.D. student at The Department of Computer and Systems Science (DSV) at The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Stockholm University (SU), Sweden.
I run a record label called Häpna together with Johan Berthling. We don't specialize in any particular genre, but most releases will contain experimental, electronic or improvised audio. We like demos.
Occasionally I compose music. I'd like to do this more soon. News: recently (Oct. 2000) a musique concrète-track of mine appeared on Variious, a compilation CD by Intransitive Recordings. I was in good company I think; other artists on the CD include John Hudak, Roel Meelkop, Kevin Drumm, Voice Crack, Pimmon, Taylor Deupree, and many more.
I have co-written a paper, Deflection of the Local Interstellar Dust Flow by Solar Radiation Pressure, published in the Dec 17, 1999 issue of Science magazine (the first link refers to an abstract of the paper - send me an e-mail if you're interested in the full text).
My formal education includes:
computers and complex systems (this is my research field at DSV)
physics and mathematics (M.S. in Engineering Physics, i.e. civilingenjör
Teknisk Fysik, approx. 180 credits, at KTH)
philosophy, history of ideas and musikwissenschaft (approx. 120 credits,
at SU)
During my time as a Master's student I focused on mathematical physics and astronomy. I did the work for my thesis Interstellar Dust in the Heliosphere at the University of Florida. I'm slowly, slowly working on my C-uppsats in theoretical philosophy (maybe it will deal with questions concerning artificial life, not sure). I wrote my B-uppsats in philosophy of mind, called Artificial Intelligence and Consciousness. It was about Searle's chinese room thought experiment (this is a deleted item, sorry). I have worked short periods at Saab Ericsson Space and Kineto-Auditory Communication Research Group (KACOR).
