May 2008 - KTH project
The purpose of this project was to develop an audio bus timetable, using the NFC (Near Field Communication) and the Nokia 6131 that provides this technology,
for visually impaired people.
This phone can scan RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) tags so when someone touches an appropriate surface, the NFC connection allows him to take the
data of the RFID and process them through his phone.
In our case a predetermined area of a bus stop timetable can be scanned with an NFC-phone, to
play audio, which tells the arrival time of the next three buses.
Independence and discreteness are both of main importance for visually impaired people and this is
something this application can provide to them.
This project was implemente using RFID technology, Java ME and Nokia SDK, during the "Multimodal Interaction and interfaces" course.
