Detailed description of DSVL2:3, *:52, HT 1997

Goal

The goal of the course is to provide an ideological as well as technical background for specialized courses at DSV which have an emphasis on integrated computer science and cognitive science matters.

Content

The couse aims at:

• Illustrate a set of scenarios of use for IT which can motivate:
• that a computer and systems science competence has to be augmented with knowledge in the cognitive sciences.
• the relevanse of using AI techniques to implement systems for these scenarios.
• Convey:
• the basic ideas of some of the cognitive sciences: theoretical philosophy, cognitive psychology, linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, anthropology and artificial intelligence
• the ideological debate on cognitive science and the introduction of IT.
• Give knowledge on basic techniques in Artificial Intelligence.

Organization

The course is structured in three parts that relates to the three main issues described above. The parts are:

1. Personal Software Assistants (Softbots) for collaborative, distributed and computermediated applications

2. Cognitive Science (CS)

3. Artificieal Intelligence (AI)

The course has 17 lectures. Most of the work consists of studies of the litterature and work with 5 tasks.

Examination

5 tasks. 4 of these are individual. 2 tasks are pure essays. No final written exam.
